About the University

The Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University (APAU) was established on June 12, 1964 at Hyderabad. The University was formally inaugurated on March 20, 1965 by Late Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, the then Hon'ble Prime Minister of India. Another significant milestone was the inauguration of the building programme of the University by Late Smt Indira Gandhi, the then Hon'ble Prime Minister of India on June 23, 1966.The University was renamed as Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University on November 7th 1996 in honour and memory of an outstanding Parliamentarian Acharya N.G. Ranga, who rendered remarkable selfless service for the cause of farmers and is regarded as an outstanding educationist, kisan leader and freedom fighter.

Admission And Eligibility Criteria

  • Polytechnics
Duration of the programme : Min: 2 years Max: 4 years (from the date of Admission)

Eligibility criteria: The students who have passed S.S.C or equivalent exam and those who are residing in rural areas are eligible. The student must have studied atleast for 4 years during the period of first to tenth class schools located in rural areas (non-municipal area). The candidate should obtain 55% marks (excluding Hindi). In case SCs and STs categories the candidate should obtain at least 45% of marks. Medium of instruction for all the Polytechnic courses is Telugu.

Age: The candidates for admission to first year polytechnic courses in the University shall be required to have completed 15 years of age as on 31st August of the year of admission with an upper age limit of 22 years.

Reservation weightage for different categories
a) Backward Classes = 29%
BC - A -7%
BC - B -10%
BC - C -1%
BC - D -7%
BC - E -4%.
b) Scheduled Castes(SC) = 15 %
c) Scheduled Tribes(ST) = 6%
d) women = 33.3%
e) Physically Disabled - 3 %
One per cent each under Visually, Hearing, Orthopaedically impaired categories

Other Reservations:
f) Children of Ex-Servicemen and Defence Personnel = 2 %

  • Under Graduate Programme
The University offers various UG degree courses in the faculties of Agriculture, and Home Science at its constituent colleges in A.P. State, the main campus being Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. The medium of instruction for all the U.G. Courses in ENGLISH

Duration of the programme :
Min : 4 years
Max : 7 years (from the date of Admission)

Criteria for admission
The students are admitted into all U.G courses except B.H.Sc. (Home Science) based on their performance in the state level Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) conducted by Department of Higher Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh. In case of B.Sc. (Hons) Home Science only women candidates are eligible for admission with a pass in two year intermediate Examination with Bi. P. C or M.P.C. Home Science polytechnic students are also eligible. The University shall invite applications from eligible candidates through notification in some of the leading news papers generally in the month of June.

Age
The candidates for admission to First Year Under-Graduate courses in the University shall be required to have completed 17 years of age as on 31st December of the year of admission with an upper age limit of 22 years for all the candidates, 25 years in case of SC and ST candidates and 27 years for Physically challenged.
The eligible candidates shall be required to attend personal counselling perusing as per the intimation/notification in the News papers and be admitted to different U.G Programmers depending on their individual merit as determined by the rank' obtained in EAMCET following the presidential order (Regional allotment), the rule of reservation as per orders of the Government of Andhra Pradesh.

MBA in Agri Business management Max: 4 years (from the date of Admission)
Ph.D. Min: 3 years Max: 6 years (from the date of Admission)

he upper age limit is 40 years for both Master's & Doctoral degree

Reservation
Local and Non Local Candidates
Admission to 85% of the seats in each major field of study shall be reserved in favour of local candidates and are allocated in relation to the local area in respect of the Andhra University and Nagarjuna University; Osmania University and Kakatiya University; and Sri Venkateswara University in the ratio of 42:36:22 respectively.

SC, ST and BC candidates: 15%, 6% and 29% of the seats in each course of study in each faculty shall be reserved for the candidates belonging to SCs, STs and BCs respectively.

Three per cent of seats in each course are reserved for physically disabled candidates as per the Government norms.

The entrance test shall be comprehensive one, covering all relevant subjects prescribed for the concerned bachelor degree requirements of this University.

M.Sc Plant Molecular Biology and Bio Technology / M.Sc. Environmental Science & Technology / M.Sc Food Science & Technology: The selection shall be based on performance in an Entrance Test

M B A Agri Business Management The selection shall be based on performance in an Entrance Test, Group Discussion & interview.

Twenty five percent (25%) of the total seats in Masters degree courses are reserved for candidates belonging to other states. The selection of these candidates is based on the All India Entrance Examination conducted by the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), New Delhi.

The qualifying marks in entrance test shall be 50%. In case of SC/ST candidates there are no qualifying marks to the extent of seats reserved for them.
