The Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), formerly known as Post Graduate Correspondence School (PGCS) was established in May 1998 with the objective to ensure the opportunity to pursue quality higher education to the large number of students who could not pursue higher education through conventional mode of education. IDOL strives to accommodate the students who cannot enroll in the conventional system of higher education due to various factors like limited number of seats in Post Graduate classes, livelihood compulsion etc. and aims to impart quality education in an intellectually challenging learning environment.

Fees Structure 

B.A. (General Course)

• Course Fee : Rs 2000/- (per semester)
• Registration Fee : As per GU rules
• Enrollment Fee : Rs. 200/-

Registration & enrollment fees are payable to Registrar, Gauhati University

B.Com (General Course)

• Course Fee : Rs. 2500/- (per semester)
• Registration Fee : As per GU rules
• Enrollment Fee : Rs. 200/-

Eligibility Criteria

1. For MA/M.Sc./MCJ/MCA and P.G. Diploma programmes :Graduate from any recognized Indian or Foreign University in any discipline irrespective of subject (s) pursued and percentage of mark obtained.

2. For Master of commerce (M.Com) : B.Com/BBA from a recognized Indian or Foreign University.
For M.Sc.-IT : B.Sc./BCA/Graduate in Engineering, Technology or equivalent degree from a recognized Indian or Foreign University.

3. For BCA : 10+2 (Any stream) or 3 years polytechnic diploma.

4. For B.Sc.-IT : 10+2 in science stream or 3 years polytechnic diploma.

5. For Diploma in ELT with ICT skills for teaching of English at the upper primary level : 10+2 or equivalent.

6. For Certificate of Computer Application (CCA) : 10+2 or equivalent.

7. For Certificate of Community Radio Technology (CCA) : 10+2 or equivalent.

For Lateral entry

• For M.A./M.Sc./M.Com programmes : Candidates of the following categories may be allowed lateral entry into the final year module/3rd semester of the M.A./M.Sc./M.Com programme under GUIDOL. (i) Candidates, who have successfully completed their previous examination/2nd semester in the concerned subject from IDOL, but discontinued due to some reason. (ii) Candidates, who have successfully completed their 1st and 2nd semester/previous year in the concerned subject from the regular/private mode of the university but had to discontinued due to some reason.
• For Mass Communication & Journalism (MCJ) : Candidates with BCJ degree from Gauhati University or PGDJMC from IDOL, GU/IGNOU/Dibrugarh University may be allowed Lateral entry into the final year module of MCJ programme.
• For Master of Computer Applications (MCA) : Candidates with a PGDCA degree from any recognized University or BCA/B.Sc.-IT/ B.Sc.(CS)/DOEACC ‘a’ level, may be allowed Leteral entry into 3rd semester of the MCA programme.
