JEE Main 2016 Exam Pattern and Syllabus

The JEE Main application and exam dates are already announced. The application form process will start from 1st December and end by the 31st December 2015. If you've any doubts regarding the application form procedure then you can check here.

Here, we are going to provide you the latest exam pattern and syllabus of JEE Main 2016 which is very important if you're going to attend the examination this year.

Mode of Examination

• The examination will be conducted in two modes - offline (Pen and Paper Based) and online (Computer Based) for B.E/B.Tech.

• The examination will be conducted only in offline (Pen and Paper Based) for B. Arch./B. Planning.

Note: A candidate will opt for either Pen and Paper Based or Computer Based examination modes for Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.) only.

Type of Examination

• JEE Main shall have two papers, Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.) and Paper-2 (B. Arch./B. Planning.). 
• Candidates may take Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.), or Paper-2 (B. Arch./B. Planning.), or both as per the course(s) they are seeking admission to.
• Subject combinations for each paper, type of questions in each paper and mode of examination available is given:

Choice of Medium of Question Papers

1. All Examination Paper cities English and Hindi Medium
2. Examination Centre Cities in Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli English, Hindi and Gujarati
3. Examination Centre Cities in Maharashtra English, Hindi, Marathi and Urdu

Note: The option of question paper language should be exercised while filling up the Application Form and it cannot be changed at a later stage.

Exam Pattern

JEE Main 2016 Paper-1 (B.E./ B. Tech.)

• JEE Mains 2016 will be total of 3 hours (180 minutes). Question Paper contains objective questions from the subjects of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry with equal distribution of marks as per given below:

• There will be only one correct response for each question out of four responses given.
• One-fourth marks (¼) will be deducted for indicating incorrect response of each question. However, no deduction from the total score will be made if no response is indicated for a question.
• All calculations/writing work is to be done only in the rough sheet provided at the centre. On completion of the test, candidates must hand over the rough sheets to the invigilator on duty in the examination hall.

JEE Main 2016 Paper-2 (B.Arch./ B.Planning)

• Part I - Mathematics
• Part II - Aptitude Test
• Part III - Drawing Test

• The Aptitude and Mathematics section will carry 40 and 30 MCQ’s, respectively and the Drawing section will consist of 7 questions and candidates will have to attempt any two.
• Marking scheme will be same as per Paper 1.
