NIMCET 2016 – NIT MCA Common Entrance Exam Details

The National Institute of Technology (formerly known as Regional Engineering College) Tiruchirappalli, situated in the heart of Tamil Nadu on the banks of river Cauvery, was started as a joint and co-operative venture of the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1964 with a view to catering to the needs of man-power in technology for the country. The college has been conferred with autonomy in financial and administrative matters to achieve rapid development. Because of this rich experience, this institution was granted Deemed University Status with the approval of the UGC/AICTE and Govt. of India in the year 2003 and renamed as National Institute of Technology. NIT-T was registered under Societies Registration Act XXVII of 1975.

NIMCET 2016 is NIT MCA Common Entrance Test. NIMCET is a National Level Test conducted by NITs for admission in to their MCA programme of Session 2016-17.
Candidate can check online application form, syllabus for the test, exam centers, eligibility criteria to award a rank, rank card, admission procedure, list of participating institutes with total number of seats, seat distribution, contact addresses, admission schedule are given below.

Application Form and Online Registration

NIMCET 2016 Online Registration process has started from the official website at http://nimcet2016.nitdgp.ac.in as per the schedule. Candidates should apply for NIMCET-2016 through ‘Online’ only on or before the last date. Interested & eligible candidates may also fill the online registration form though the direct link, which is given below.

Application Fee

  • OPEN/OBC Candidates: Rs. 2,000/-
  • SC/ST Candidates: Rs. 1000/-

Documents (both soft and hard copies) needed for completing the registration are

1. e-receipt generated after paying processing fee through State Bank Collect.

2. Passport size photograph and its scanned copy (maximum size: 30 KB), signature (maximum size: 10 KB).

3. All certificates and marks memorandum of X Class and qualifying degree.

4. If you have the above documents ready start filling the NIMCET 2016 Online Application Form and take generated application form for NIMCET. Completed application along with all relevant documents should reach “The Secretary, NIMCET-2016, National Institute of Technology, M.G Avenue, Durgapur-713209” by Speed Post/ Registered Post so as to reach on or before the last date.

Instructions for Filling On-Line Application Form

1. Please read the following instructions carefully before you fill-in on-line application form
Before you start filling-in the on-line application form, keep the following documents ready for uploading.

2. Scanned copy of your recent passport size photograph (alternatively, get a digital passport size photograph) and scanned copy of your signature.

3. Separate files should be created for the scanned photograph, scanned signature in appropriate format (.jpeg, .png only). Maximum size of photograph file, signature file, are 30 KB and 10 KB respectively.

4. Further, you should keep ready the e-receipt of State Bank Collect paid as per the instructions and enter the details of e-receipt in the space provided for, in the online application form.

5. Use a Java script enabled browser (Internet Explorer 6.0 or above, or Mozilla Firefox 3.0 or above).

Step 1 : Fill Registration Form

“Login” tab is provided in the right panel of the home page. Initially, press “New Registration”. Then “Instructions for filling Online form of application” appears on the screen. After reading these instructions, press “Register” button provided at bottom of the webpage.


The applicants first need to click the “SIGN UP Here” link to create new user account.
In the “New User Registration” webpage, the applicants need to fill all the fields properly.
Applicants need to ensure that valid e-mail-id and 10 digit mobile number has been entered in the respective places.
Applicants need to retain the E-mail id and Mobile number till completion of the admission process through NIMCET-2016.


Type your name (as given in your class SSC or 10th or equivalent certificate), email, username (choose the username not less than six alpha-numeric characters with first two and last two characters as alphabets. Special characters are not allowed) and password of at least six alpha-numeric characters. Special characters are not allowed in the password. The entries made here will be used in subsequent pages. After pressing “Submit” button, it takes you to Login page (i.e. home page). You can change your password any number of times.


Note: Candidates have to remember their login, password, security questions and answers, e-mail id entered in the application till the end of NIMCET-2016 process. Candidates will not be allowed to create multiple user logins.

Step 2 : Fill Online Application Form

Press “Login” tab is provided in the right panel of the home page. Enter Username and Password.
In the next page, press “apply” button, to fill Personal Information. Upload the photograph file and the signature file by clicking “Choose File” and then selecting the corresponding file.



  • Fill-in all the three choices of examination centres in order of priority using drag-down menu. (An opted centre may be cancelled, if sufficient number of candidates do not opt it.) For any candidate, if all the selected choices of Centres are cancelled/not available, then a Centre nearest to the first choice will be allotted to that candidate.
  • Then press “save” button and then “next” button take you to enter SSC/X class marks/grades.
  • In case of grades, choose “CGPA” instead of “Percentage” in scale of marks. Then again press “save” and then next button to take you to enter 12th class/PUC marks. Then again press “save” and then next button to take you to enter Qualifying degree marks/grades.
  • Enter subject, marks/grade obtained, maximum marks/point, credits for all the subjects and all the years of the qualifying degree.
  • Enter e-receipt particulars as asked in the online application form.
  • Once all the forms i.e., Personal Information, Educational Qualifications and Payment details are completed, “View” button will appear. Press it.
  • Three pages application form will be generated with the particulars given by you. Verify it. If you wish to edit then you can do so by pressing “Edit” button. (Note: Do Not Take Printout of the Application Before Pressing “Final Submit” Button)
  • If you are sure that all the entries are made correct then press “Final Submit”. Once you press “Final Submit” then you can not edit any data entered. Then “Print Form” button will appear and press it.
  • Now, application form will be generated along with unique application number printed on right top corner of first page. Please note the application number for all future references and correspondence. Now take print out this generated application on A4 size paper and keep two copies with you. Verify whether all the details are correct or not.
  • Put signature in each page at the bottom and also in the space provided for in the Declaration part (3rd page). Applications without signature under declaration are considered as incomplete.
  • Do not forget to enclose e-receipt with the generated application while posting it reach Secretary, NIMCET-2015 office. Applications without e-receipt will be rejected.

Documents to be submitted with the NIMCET 2016 Application Form

1. Print the Check list given below and mark (√) in the box for compliance of each and send it along with the generated application form, payment e-receipt and other documents.

2. In case, not applicable for (4) or (6) below, specify “NA “in the box.

3. Generated Application Form signed at the bottom of each page and at the Signature place of the Declaration part.

4. Payment through State Bank collect as processing fee for NIMCET-2016 worth (a) Rs. 2,000/- for Open/OBC, or (b) Rs. 1,000/- for SC/ST.

5. Copies of Mark sheets of (a) SSC or 10th Class or equivalent and (b) qualifying Degree
If applicable, Category Certificate issued by the competent authority in the prescribed format given in Annexure I and II of brochure.

6. If applicable, Persons with Disabilities Certificate issued by Competent authority in the prescribed format given in Annexure III of brochure.

7. Certificate issued by head of the institution in case of candidates appearing for their final examination in the academic year 2015-16.

Eligibility Criteria For NIMCET 2016

1. Indian Nationals securing at least 60% marks in aggregate or 6.5 CGPA on a 10 point scale# (55% marks or 6.0 CGPA on a 10 point scale in case of SC, ST) in
  • (i) BSc / BSc (Hons) / BCA / BIT of minimum three years full-time**; OR
  • (ii) B E / B Tech or equivalent from a recognized University are eligible to appear for NIMCET-2016 test.

# CGPA other than 10 point scale will be converted to 10 point scale based on unitary method

2. Candidates who are appearing for the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply for NIMCET-2016 and such candidates shall have to furnish the proof (in the form of a certificate issued by the Head of institution where the candidate has studied) of candidature for appearing the examinations during the academic year 2015-16. All candidates shall submit the proof of fulfilling the eligibility criteria of NIMCET-2016 at the time of Counseling/Admission but not later than 15 Sep 2016, failing which their admission is liable to be cancelled by the respective NITs.

3. Students who have completed/completing degree BSc / BSc(Hons)/BCA/ BIT of 3 years from Open Universities are also eligible to apply provided their programme is approved by UGC / AICTE and Distance Education Council (DEC) of Govt. of India.

4. Conversion from CGPA to percentage and vice-versa is not permitted.

5. The percentages of marks in qualifying degree are to be calculated on the basis of marks obtained in all the subjects studied in all the years including languages, optional and additional subjects studied, if any. The aggregate of marks secured in all the subjects in all the years computed using this method of calculation alone be considered by NIMCET-2016 for deciding eligibility.

Admit Card of NIMCET 2016

For all eligible applicants, Admit Cards is now made available on the website at nimcet2016.nitdgp.ac.in as per the schedule. NIMCET 2016 Admit Card is also known as the NIMCET 2016 Hall Ticket.

Admit card of NIMCET 2016 was available from 16 May 2016.

Downloading of admit card is over…!!!

Admit card of NIT MCA Common Entrance Test will not be sent to the candidates individually by post. Eligible candidates can download their own admit cards online.

Candidates must preserve the NIMCET 2016 admit card till the end of admission process.

On the day of exam, candidates must bring the admit card of NIMCET 2016 and present it to the invigilator and other officials as and when asked for. Candidates who do not possess the NIMCET 2016 admit card will not be permitted to write the exam.

In case the Admit Card of NIMCET Exam is not available for downloading, the candidates should send an e-mail to nimcet2016@gmail.com between 16 to 26 May 2016 giving details of the candidate’s application number and proof for remittance of fee. Telephone enquiries will not be entertained.

Candidate must preserve the NIMCET 2016 Admit Card till the entire process of admission is complete. Request for issue of duplicate Admit Card for NIMCET will not be entertained after the examination in any case. Admit card number should be quoted in all subsequent correspondences.
Scrutiny of Application Form and Issuance of Admit Card

All the applications, received as Hard copies (Print out of on-line generated application forms) along with payment receipt of processing fee and other documents, within the due date i.e 18 Apr 2016, will be scrutinized. The applications without the required documents, mentioned above and payment receipt, will be rejected and no admit card will be issued for such type of candidates.

For all eligible applicants, Admit Cards will be made available on the website at http://nimcet2016.nitdgp.ac.in after scrutiny of their applications. Applicants will be required to download their Admit Card after login to the official website as per the schedule. The candidates shall have to produce the Admit Card at the Test Centre, counseling centre and participating institute (PI) at the time of admission and advised to preserve till the NIMCET-2016 process is over.

Exam Pattern

NIMCET-2016 test will be conducted with only one question paper containing 120 multiple choice questions covering the following subjects. Multiple Choice Questions will be written in English Language only and will not be translated into any other language. The duration of NIMCET-2016 examination is two hours.

Marking Scheme

  • Each correctly answered question will carry FOUR marks and each wrongly answered question will lead to Negative One mark.
  • The candidates are advised not to attempt such questions if they are not sure of the correct answer.
  • No deduction from the total score will, however, be made if a question is unanswered.
  • More than one answer indicated against a question will be negatively marked.
  • The candidates have to mark the responses in the OMR sheet using black or blue ink ball point pen only.


Syllabus for NIMCET 2016 

Mathematics: (50 questions)

Set Theory: Concept of sets – Union, Intersection, Cardinality, Elementary counting; permutations and combinations.

Probability and Statistics: Basic concepts of probability theory, Averages, Dependent and independent events, frequency distributions, measures of central tendencies and dispersion.
Algebra: Fundamental operations in algebra, expansions, factorization, simultaneous linear / quadratic equations, indices, logarithms, arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions, determinants and matrices.

Coordinate Geometry: Rectangular Cartesian coordinates, distance formula, equation of a line, and intersection of lines, pair of straight lines, equations of a circle, parabola, ellipse, and hyperbola.

Calculus: Limit of functions, continuous function, differentiation of function, tangents and normal, simple examples of maxima and minima. Integration of functions by parts, by substitution and by partial fraction, definite integrals, applications of definite integrals to areas.

Vectors: Position vector, addition and subtraction of vectors, scalar and vector products and their applications to simple geometrical problems and mechanics.
Trigonometry: Simple identities, trigonometric equations properties of triangles, solution of triangles, heights and distances, general solutions of trigonometric equations.

Analytical Ability and Logical Reasoning: (40 questions)

The questions in this section will cover logical situation and questions based on the facts given in the passage.

Computer Awareness: (10 questions)

Computer Basics: Organization of a computer, Central Processing Unit (CPU), structure of instructions in CPU, input/output devices, computer memory, and back-up devices.

Data Representation: Representation of characters, integers and fractions, binary and hexadecimal representations, binary arithmetic: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, simple arithmetic and two’s complement arithmetic, floating point representation of numbers, Boolean algebra, truth tables, Venn diagrams.

General English: (20 questions)
Questions in this section will be designed to test the candidates’ general understanding of the English language. There will be questions on the following topics:

  • Comprehension, vocabulary, Basic English Grammar (like usage of correct forms of verbs, prepositions and articles), word power, synonyms and antonyms, meaning of words and phrases, technical writing.

Candidates who got seat allotted in earlier round and upgraded in this round of allotment must approach the same reporting center for change of their option from option 2 to option 1 and do so. However, if they do not wish to change their earlier option then they need not report.
Fresh allottees not reporting will lose their seat allotment automatically and will not be considered for subsequent rounds of seat allotment.

Candidates  who  wish  to join the institute in which seat is allotted 14 -15 Jul 2016 Fresh  allottees  in  third  round  must  report  in person at the allotted institute and get documents verified, pay full fee and attend classes.Candidates who got seat allotted in earlier round(s) must also join the institute with the allotted seat or upgraded seat whichever is latest.   Pay the remaining fee and attend the classes.
Candidates  of  round  1,2 and  3  who  are  not satisfied with their allotment of seat including upgraded seat and do not wish  to  get  admitted  to the allotted institute, but still wish to remain consideration for final round of allotment. 18 – 19 Jul 2016 Fresh  allottees  in  third  round  must  report  in person at some reporting center and get documents verified, surrender the allotted seat and obtain letter of reporting from reporting center.Candidates who got seat allotted in earlier round(s) and upgraded in this round of allotment, but do not wish to join the institute must approach the same   reporting center, surrender the seat by filling a prescribed application and get the letter of reporting.
Announcement  of  vacant seats 22 Jul 2016 Candidates who have not got seat in any round of allotment and candidates who have acted as stated in S No. 6 b are only eligible for final allotment round.However, the candidates who got seat in some round  but  not  reported  at  that  time  are  not eligible for final round of allotment. Candidates who  have  reported  but  later  cancelled  their seat are also not eligible for final round allotment.
Fresh Choice filling 23 – 24 2016 (up to 5:00 p.m.) All eligible candidates for final round of allotment must fill their choices afresh and final allotment round if any vacant seats are available.
Final round of allotment 26 Jul 2016 Check allotment in website, download and print seat allotment letter. Allottees must report in person at the allotted institute and get documents verified, pay fee and attend classes. Last date of reporting against final round of allotment is on or before 01 Aug 2016.
